News Flash! Log Cabin Update!
Welcome to My Log Cabin!
Decorative Painting and Fine Art are my passions! Please browse the site to find my original decorative designs and fine art designs, offered in step by step, instructional, pattern packets. I am also the author of three instructional, decorative art books that are available here.
Seasonal decorative items are my specialty and include: snowmen, Santas, ghosts, pumpkins, and bugs! I am also known for tiny pin designs and the use of unusual surfaces. New pins are on their way, so I hope you look for them as you come back often! I am so privileged and blessed to have a career in art and appreciate the rare circumstance of working in a profession that I love. I believe that everyone has a gift from the Creator and should be inspired to develop it to the best of our abilities, so we may share it with others. Art is a very personal thing and can reveal one's inner thoughts, hopes, and dreams. Art flows from my heart and mind and soul. It is inspired by my Christian faith and by my wonderful family, a very patient and supportive husband, and the history and beauty of the area that surrounds our rustic log cabin.
The Lord spreads the abundance of nature, like a feast, before my eyes. From the sights and smells of the herb garden, to the playful deer prancing through the front yard, to the occasional, unwanted skunk on the breezeway, to the beautiful farms in the distant, early morning mist, it is all here to see and enjoy. I try my best to record these blessings through my camera, my pencil, and my brush. The beauty and color can be so overwhelming that emotions often swell to the point of spilling over. God’s creations are so awesome and humbling. My decorative designs might be described best as American Folk Art, with a whimsical sense of humor. However, I also enjoy the challenge of realism, the loose style of modern art, and the construction of collage. I have experimented in almost all mediums, but have gravitated toward three favorites - pencil (& charcoal), acrylics, and watercolors.
I also love photography. You will find many of my nature photographs on display and for sale in the site. Coming Soon! NEW! "Gallery Raps & Artist Tiles" which will be placed in their own category. The Gallery Raps consist of original fine art pieces (paintings and photographs), printed on linen canvas and mounted on 2-inch thick stretcher bars. Frames are not necessary since the canvas is stapled to the back of the bars. Artist Tiles are small versions of the Gallery Raps. They are printed on professional, photo quality paper, and mounted onto free-standing, 4-inch or 6-inch square tile composition boards (which can also be hung). An inspirational verse and/or motivational words may be added. Custom prints are also available, from your own paintings or photos. For more information on custom prints, please contact me by email.
I talked about a new walking stick. I could not make a deal with the supplier, but have not given up. I will let you know when and if things are resolved. In the next few weeks, I will load new packets and more products into the site. I have several new packets and many accessories and surfaces. So, please stop back often to see What’s New? I will try my best to put something new in the site at least once a week through the holidays.I have to admit that I had neglected the website for quite some time because I have been very busy with conventions, designing, and helping to organize the Riverside Art Center (RAC) in Wapakoneta, where I am serving as a Trustee. Our not-for-profit status is pending. RAC is currently offering Fall Classes and I am the instructor for the Decorative Arts. Other instructors include: Marge Brandt (Wapak) - Watercolor, Barbara Sailor (Jackson Center, OH) - Intermediate Watercolor, and Marcia Maas (Wapak) - Beginning Drawing.
Winter Classes will begin in January and I will teach evening Decorative Art classes and an eight week, fine art class on Tuesday mornings (Feb. & March) called Art and Coffee. Other instructors for the Winter Session include: Barb Sailor - Watercolor, Marcia Maas - Drawing, Cindy Staples (Wapak)- Pottery, and John Rausch (Wapak) - Fine Art. Art Shows and Events are being planned. Please look for current event information in the FrogBlog.Rodney Ann Bensman (Minster, OH) and I have organized an ATC swap group called the ATC Trading Company.
We are fifteen artists who come from a variety of artistic backgrounds. We meet every two months in a member’s home, to swap all original cards, share art news and techniques, and enjoy each other’s company. The long distance members send their cards and we trade for them.
I hope members don’t mind, but I would like to mention all of them here: Vera Collier (Michigan), Karen Hamilton (OH), Jim Leitz (OH), Marlene Kruetz (Minnesota), Karen Frye (Oklahoma), Judy Grone (OH), Sue Nocera (OH), Brandy Glass (Ohio), Pat Rayman (OH), John Rausch (OH), Janet Ravas (New York), and Kay Slutterbeck (OH). Our next swap is November 1st and I am the hostess. Please e-mail me, if you would like information on how to organize a swap group in your area. Rodney and I would be happy to help you get started.
That’s it for this update. I will really make an effort to do this more often. I’m sure I have forgotten things that would have been interesting or helpful this time, but if I don’t write them down .they go right out of my head! One of the hazards of growing old! I don’t mind getting older, as long as I can get something accomplished in a day, and find time to spend with the family, especially the grandchildren! They are the best therapy!Enjoy what’s left of the Fall & have a Happy Halloween! God Bless!
